A Setup Wizard will guide you through the installation process.

  1. To begin installing OpenSim, go to the location where you previously saved the installation program (e.g., your Desktop) and double click the file.

  2. An Open File – Security Warning will appear. Confirm you want to run this software by clicking the Run button.

  3. The OpenSim Setup Wizard will launch. Close all other applications, and then click the Next button to continue.

  4. The license terms for OpenSim will be displayed. It is recommended that you review these terms before installing. If appropriate, click the I Agree

  1.  button to continue.

  2. The next screen will ask you to select the folder in which to install OpenSim.

  1. You must choose a folder where OpenSim will be able to write to files  (e.g., on Windows, you cannot install to "C:/Program Files/OpenSim 4.0", since this is a system system folder). Choose the folder and click the 

  1. Next button to continue. 

  2. It may take several minutes to install OpenSim. Once OpenSim has been installed. If you don't have the visual studio distribution

  1. You may be prompted with the another installation

  1. dialog to install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. Click

  1. Yes to install

  1. the Visual C++ Redistributable on your computer. Afterwards, click the Finish button to close the Setup Wizard and complete the installation.

Run Installation Program on Mac

A setup wizard will guide you through the installation process on Mac, as well.

Right-click to select the installer package and choose Open from the dropdown menu. Choose OK when the security warning appears to launch the installer. Then follow the instructions that appear.

OpenSim will be installed in ~/Applications/ (if you selected "Install for me only") or /Applications/ (if you installed system-wide).

If you have installed OpenSim previously, you can run the following in a terminal to clear previous OpenSim preferences:

    defaults delete org.opensim.version40
