Transportation between the Airport and Downtown Palo Alto

Ride-sharing services

Uber and Lyft are often cost-effective means to get to the Stanford area from SFO or SJC. You can also take public transportation to downtown Palo Alto using the directions provided below.

By Train

From SFO take the BART (5 minute ride) to the Millbrae Avenue Caltrain Station. From the Millbrae Avenue Caltrain Station, take the Caltrain southbound to the Palo Alto Caltrain Station (about a 40 minute ride).

From SJC, take the VTA Line 60 to the Santa Clara Transit Center, take the Caltrain north to the Palo Alto Caltrain Station (about a 30 minute ride).

Getting to Stanford

Ride-sharing services

We strongly encourage you to take public transportation or use ride services (Uber, Lyft) to come to campus, as parking is very limited and is expensive.

Free Stanford-Operated Marguerite Shuttle

The Marguerite shuttle is free transportation provided by the university to travel to and around the campus. From the Palo Alto Caltrain Station, the Marguerite "Y" line shuttle can take you to Paul Brest Hall.

Parking on Stanford Campus

Parking at Stanford is by permit only and is strictly enforced.

Limited visitor parking is available in the Wilbur Field Garage (Zone 7206).

To park on-campus, you will need to purchase a parking permit through ParkMobile on the day of the event. See instructions below. Please allow 15-30 minutes to find parking and walk to the building.

Parking is enforced Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm. After 4pm and on weekends, parking is free throughout the University.
